All of the following rules apply to our tournaments:
This rulebook is for online tournaments ONLY!
Update 2024.3 of the yearbook effective August 7, 2024.
Rule 1.1: All players must agree to play fairly when registering for tournaments.
Rule 1.1.1: Before you play your first game of a tournament on Tornelo, you will have to confirm your honesty.
Rule 1.1.2: If playing on Lichess or chess.com, you will not need to confirm your honesty.
Rule 1.2: An example of unfair play could be...
Rule 1.2.1: Making deals with friends to play bad in an attempt for your friend purposely gain ELO or win a lot of games (and vice versa).
Rule 1.2.2: Having any chess bots, chess games, or chess videos opened on your computer (e.g. Stockfish, another chess.com game, etc.). Exception: You can have the tournament game itself open on your computer.
Rule 1.2.3: Being on voice call with anyone, especially chess coaches or other chess players. Exception: If the tournament page specifies to join a meeting or voice call, you may do that.
Rule 1.2.4: (this will be taken into more investigation) Playing with a 90% accuracy or higher every game or beating players well above your skill level.
Rule 1.2.5: Playing with an alternate lichess account.
Rule 1.3: If a player does not play fairly, the following may happen.
Rule 1.3.1: A ban from playing in future Layer Chess Club tournaments for a certain amount of time, and possibly permanent (decided by the Layer Chess Club).
Rule 1.3.2: A ban from playing in future Chess Federation of Canada tournaments (if CFC rated) for a certain amount of time, and possibly permanent (decided by the CFC).
Rule 1.3.3: A ban from the online platform used for the tournament (decided by the platform).
Rule 1.3.4: A removal of your results for the tournament in which you did not play fairly in.
Rule 1.4: If a player is found cheating by another player or someone other than an employee at the Layer Chess Club, they may report to info@layerchess.ca and the Layer Chess Club will investigate the situation.
Rule 2.1: When registering, a player must fill out all of the required information on the form.
Rule 2.2: Layer Chess Club will take the following information from you during registration.
Rule 2.2.1: Your email will be collected to contact you after your registration is accepted and to notify you of anything for the tournament.
Rule 2.2.2: Your name will be collected to identify you.
Rule 2.2.3: Your CFC ID will be collected to send results after the tournament is done.
Rule 2.2.4: In Junior tournaments, your Date of Birth will be collected to confirm you are under the age of 20 (18 for some tournaments).
Rule 2.2.5: Your phone number will be collected to inform you in case of emergency and to prevent scammers. Most of the time, we will not use this.
Rule 2.3: We can decline anyone's registration.
Rule 2.4: Tournament fees will not be refunded less than 24 hours prior to the tournament.
Rule 2.4.1: If a tournament is delayed, full refunds will be given if asked.
Rule 2.4.2: If a tournament is cancelled, full refunds will be given.
Rule 2.5: If some rounds are cut in a tournament, there is a system for refunds.
Rule 2.5.1: If more than 20% of rounds are cut, players will recieve 25% refunds.
Rule 2.5.2: If more than 40% of rounds are cut, players will recieve 40% refunds.
Rule 2.6: You cannot transfer registrations to another tournament. If you would like to transfer, ask us to refund your registration and register for the other tournament.
Rule 2.7: The Layer Chess Club has the rights to change any information to the tournament, including details, dates, and registration prior to the tournament.
Rule 3.1: All players must be familiar with the Layer Chess Club rulebook prior to playing.
Rule 3.2: All players must have a valid CFC membership and the membership must be valid until after the last day of the tournament.
Rule 3.2.1: Memberships will not be given by the Layer Chess Club and must be purchased by the player.
Rule 3.3: It is recommended that players are on the tournament page at least 5 minutes before the tournament starts and is recommended that they try to join an hour before the tournament starts so they don't have difficulties later.
Rule 3.3.1: If you do not show up and/or show up late, the Layer Chess Club has the right to refuse a refund, including Rule 2.5's refund policy.
